I’ve been wanting to ask why does Islam for example require 5 times a day prayer. You said it’s to distract from Gnosis. Are you saying if society didn’t have prayer requirements more people would be gnostic? if so how?
So where did the five times daily even come from ? Koran says Mohammed was directed to enforce 50 prayer sessions daily.to his tiny following.
Does that seem like Good advice from an omniscient ultrawise being ?
This would render daily life impossible. Its esssentially a monastic lifestyle. Society could not function..
In the next session Mohammed managed to bargain Allah down to a more practical 5 daily prayers.
Though even that is so disruptive it would ruin some western factory team work for example. It has likely held back middle eastern industrialisation..
To me its actually a valuable yoga bending stretching exercise with a mental meditation thrown in (mantras) and I have asked what is their mind content during this and the answer is a feeling of great peace. So they are transcending 5 times daily which has obvious health benefits.
Transcending means all thought stops briefly. Its deeply restful and recuperative..
Now this is exploiting both our natural religious tendencies in our DNA And our tendency to be trained ritually by repetition as in Pavlov’s dogs.
Recall Pavlov Associating feeding dogs when a bell is rung after few reps the dogs start salivating on just hearing a bell. It was soon discovered this works on people too. Thus a persons autonomic nervous system is malleable, programmable, with ritualised repetitive behaviour.
So muslim prayer techniques exploit this natural behaviour in our physiologies.
And other benefits include you are too busy praying to plan insurrection or rebellion.
It discourages rebellious behaviours in favour of obedience.
Christians make a big point of ritual with their prayer closets, as muslims unfurl their prayer mats.
In light of a previous letter question about real Gods dont need worship, I point out that prayer rituals are of considerable benefit in terms of attunement of the individual’s chemistry and mind.
